Enjoy from Bilthoven

Between Utrecht and Hilversum, the landscape is a variety of rolling forests, vast polders and vast lakes. In addition to beautiful nature, you will find a lot of cultural history here, partly thanks to old country houses and forts. This route takes you through this ideal cycling area, you will experience a rich and relaxed day out!

From the Ridderoordse Bos, which lies on the foothills of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, you drive into the polder. You will pass the Landgoed Persijn, dating from 1781, where a monumental country house adorns the area. A little further on you pass through the old polder village of Westbroek, which enjoys a protected village view. Here you can see De Kraai, a corn mill from 1880,

After you have enjoyed the view over the Maarsseveense Plassen, you will see many characteristic buildings in Maarssen. It is not for nothing that Maarssen enjoys a protected village view. Driving along the banks of the meandering Vecht you will soon find yourself back in the vast polder. It is nice to pedal along the rippling water, with every revolution the landscape seems to gain in beauty.

Just before Loenen aan de Vecht, you veer off into the picturesque landscape of the Loosdrechtse Plassen. This area consists of several bodies of water separated by dikes and islands, resulting in a wide and idyllic view. You can also see Fort Spion here, which was part of the New Dutch Waterline. The fort dates from 1847 and was tasked with managing the road from Loosdrecht to Loenen. In Oud-Loosdrecht, a village in the middle of the Loosdrechtse Plassen, you can still see many monumental farms and houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries on the Oud-Loosdrechtsedijk.
