Tour of the Green Heart: Oudewater and Benschop

Your route starts at Gasterij de Toren. This route of over 45 kilometers takes you to Nieuwegein through the Utrechtse Waarden, typical Dutch polders with orchards, windbreaks and waterways. IJsselstein is also more than worth it. In the historic center you imagine yourself in the Middle Ages. The city center has been declared a protected cityscape. You will also pass through Oudewater, the oldest city in the Green Heart. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Oudewater was an important producer of rope for which a lot of hemp was grown. You can still see the Rope Museum and the hemp fields in the area. You cycle back through Benschop, a mining village that originated in the twelfth century. Here you can enjoy many monumental farms. Nice and rural!
