A nice detour in Deurne through the castle grounds and the Heiakkerpark, which has been laid out over the Peelrand fracture, as it were. From the parking lot at the Ossenbeemd you first walk left all the way around the Kasteelpark to junction 71. Then at the Haageind you turn right past the watermill and the Klein Kasteel on one side and the Groot Kasteel with Dinghuis on the other.
- Both castles were built at the end of the 14th century. In a strategic location: where an important approach road from Deurne (the Haageind) coming from a high sand ridge through the Peel, crosses the valley of the Vlier and just'below\\\' the Peelrandrift. Due to the last two circumstances, the castle moats and the water mill were assured of water all year round. During the liberation of Deurne on September 24, 1944, the Groot Kasteel was set on fire.
- The water mill on the Vlier was built in 1631. A water mill is said to have stood on the same spot as early as 1387.
After the Klein Kasteel you turn left (direction node 72). You now pass the rear of the Klein Kasteel and arrive at the Maria Peace Chapel, which is located directly on the Vlier. The chapel was a gift from the population of Deurne to the then pastor Witlox in June 1944.
At junction 72, walk straight on to the bridge over the Vlier with the lock. Here the Vlier passes the Peelrandbreak. The water of the Elder is rich in iron. You can also sometimes find clear red colored water in ditches in the area. Mineral and iron-rich water comes to the surface at the Peelrand fracture and is exposed to the air, causing it to oxidize (rust).
You do not cross the bridge, but walk back. Here you can see the beginning of a double row of (apple) trees, which marks the Peelrand fracture in the Heiakkerpark.
You walk around the pond to eventually end up again at the Appeldijk, from where you walk back to the Haageind. At the rear of the Groot Kasteel you will find the Dinghuis, a cozy restaurant with a homely atmosphere. From the Dinghuis you walk back to the parking lot at the Ossenbeemd.
