Description

The National Park
In this special nature reserve, forest and water go hand in hand. You will pass special willow tidal forests, polders, fields and rivers. Ferries connect the different parts of De Biesbosch with each other. In addition to cycling and walking, you can also sail, canoe and fish here.
Freshwater tidal area
The Biesbosch has the largest freshwater tidal area in Europe, with a rare form of ebb and flow. The fresh water goes up and down due to the tidal difference of about 70 to 80 centimeters. The seawater rises and pushes the freshwater discharge from the rivers around De Biesbosch into the river area. When the tide is out in the sea, that thrust decreases and the water flows back again.
