Description
As part of the Delta Works, Rijkswaterstaat completed the reclamation of the Lauwerszee in 1969, an inlet of the coast like there were many in the past. This route passes through the border area of Friesland and Groningen, and along the border of old and new land. After the reclamation, the Lauwersmeer is partly intended for agricultural use and partly for a military training area. Lauwersoog developed as a fishing port and departure point to the island of Schiermonnikoog. Since 2003, this area has been declared Lauwersmeer National Park. This route is an El Dorado for bird watchers!
Tip: parking is best in Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen.
