Description
The Nijkerkernauw is one of the border lakes between Gelderland and Flevoland. Together with the Nuldernauw, this lake is the narrowest lake in the Netherlands. This route takes you along the shore of the lake in the vicinity of Nijkerk.
Strand Nulde is the starting point of this route. From here you have a beautiful view of the Randmeren and the Flevopolder on the other side of the water. You walk a bit along the landscaped beach and on the way back you walk past the Putter Stoomgemaal. The advent of the steam engine changed the world, people were no longer dependent on nature. Thanks to the Putter steam pumping station, the water level in the beautiful, bird-rich Arkemheen polder was kept at the right level for 85 years. The Putter steam pumping station is one of only eight working steam pumping stations in the Netherlands. Come and experience this unique heritage in operation.
