Description
This route is simply fun. Today you cycle from Assen for a large part through the National Beek and Esdorpen Landscape Drentsche Aa. This area has already received five stars for its beautiful landscape and Drenthe has also received five stars this year as a cycling region. To complete this route, we have selected the best places to get off for you where you can taste fruit fresh from the land or the much-praised goat cheese, but also of course a cup of coffee.
En route
You start in Assen and come back here, but you will see that you can cycle straight from Assen into the special nature. You are cycling in an exceptional area, this area is a National Landscape but also the first Geopark in the Netherlands (in collaboration with Unesco). People have been living on the Hondsrug for thousands of years. Here the Funnel Beaker People built dolmens, and thousands of wagons and carts were pulled over the Hondsrug to Groningen in the Middle Ages. The dolmens are still there and the landscape has also remained exceptionally intact, so immerse yourself in this beautiful landscape. You can enjoy even more because you can enjoy fruit along the way, a cup of coffee with Drentse peat (herb cake), goat cheese, (traditional) ice cream and many more goodies!
