Tour of Garnwerd and Groningen

Discover Frisian farm life in the polder around Garnwerd and be surprised by the beautiful farms that dominate the Frisian landscape. Have a cup of coffee at Van der Valk Hotel Groningen - Hoogkerk before you continue cycling to the Leekstermeer. Here you see rugged low peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils. On the way back you will pass close to the Harkema church. Be sure to stop here to discover everything Albert Harkema built: not only the church complete with canal and ornamental garden, but also the tea house. Take a break here on the beautiful terrace. You will continue to encounter special places with this route. Further on you will find Wierde Fransum with only a Romanesque church, one farm and one house.
