E-bike route Drentse Aa, Norg, Leekster and Paterswoldsemeer

Your route starts in the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. Here you will experience the Drenthe of the past with Saxon farms around the village green, fields on the rounded ash trees and hay fields in the lower stream valley. In Westervelde is the Huis te Westervelde (or Tonckensborg), a mansion with a farm part and inhabited by the Tonckens family since 1709. You cycle to the Leekstermeer via the thirteenth-century church of Norg. Here you see rugged low peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils. These are the Onlanden, with vast grasslands, but also groves and hedgerows. Have a cup of coffee at Van der Valk Hotel Groningen - Hoogkerk before you continue cycling to the Paterswoldsemeer. Here you pass the De Helper mill, from 1863.
