Tour of Leekstermeer, Sandebuur and Roderwolde

Your route starts at Van der Valk Hotel Groningen - Hoogkerk. Here you put on your walking shoes and walk to the hamlet of Peizermade.'Made\\\' means meadow or grassland, i.e. the meadow near Peize. This used to be an extremely humid area that often flooded. You can still see water there: you cross the Gouw and follow the Peizerdiep for a long way. Around the Leekstermeer you walk through rugged low peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils. These are the Onlanden, with vast grasslands, but also groves and hedgerows. You walk back through Sandebuur and Roderwolde. Here you see Woldzigt, a unique grain and oil mill from 1852. In appearance, this building is a cross between a farm and a windmill.
