Different landscapes
At the start of the route, you cycle through the forests of Hertberg, a nature reserve that has been fully wooded since the eighteenth century. Most of the surrounding forests were planted on heathlands around the twentieth century. Then you enter the De Langdonken nature reserve, with its succession of swamp forests, heathlands, and beautiful blue grass meadows. Just above Averbode, you cycle through the vast forests that surround Averbode Abbey. Besides forests, you'll find fens, marshes, and heathlands here. The heathland and forest edges are grazed by a herd of around three hundred sheep. Always a sight to behold.

Take a look at Veerle
This route takes you right past the village of Veerle. Once an open landscape with scrubland, Veerle evolved over the centuries into an independent municipality with several hamlets. In 1976, the municipality was incorporated into the municipality of Laakdal. Here, you can visit Veerle Castle, a lavish country house that once belonged to a Spanish noble family.
