Discover Terneuzen and surroundings

You cycle into Terneuzen along the Otheense Kreek. There is a reed collar along the entire creek, where many birds nest and reside, and the kingfisher has also been seen several times. The Scheldt Boulevard along the Western Scheldt is the fashionable part of the city with various marinas and catering facilities in the Arsenaal, a former military building. Then you enter the Terneuzen lock complex, which connects the Ghent-Terneuzen canal with the Western Scheldt. The busy canal provides access to the port of Ghent. Giant sea containers pass through here every day. There is a visitor center in the port area (the third largest in the Netherlands); the Portal of Flanders. Traditional costumes are still worn in and around the village of Axel: with a lace hat and spiral golden curls.
