Discover Terneuzen and its surroundings

You cycle into Terneuzen along the Otheense Creek. Along the entire creek is a reed collar, where many birds nest and stay, the kingfisher has also been seen several times. The Scheldeboulevard along the Western Scheldt is the fashionable part of the city with various marinas and catering facilities in the Arsenaal, a former military building. Then you enter the Terneuzen lock complex, which connects the Ghent-Terneuzen canal with the Western Scheldt. The busy canal provides access to the port of Ghent. Gigantic sea containers pass through here every day. A visitor center is located in the port area (the third largest in the Netherlands); the Portal of Flanders. Traditional costumes are still worn in and around the village of Axel: with a lace cap and spiral-shaped golden curls.
