Discover Terneuzen and its surroundings

You cycle into Terneuzen along the Otheense Kreek. Along the entire creek there is a reed collar, where many birds nest and stay, the kingfisher has also been seen several times. The Scheldeboulevard along the Western Scheldt is the fashionable part of the city with various marinas and catering facilities in the Arsenaal, a former military building. Then you come to the Terneuzen lock complex, with which the Ghent-Terneuzen canal is connected to the Western Scheldt. The busy canal provides access to the port of Ghent. Gigantic sea containers pass through here every day. A visitors' centre is located in the port area (the third largest in the Netherlands); the Portaal van Vlaanderen. In and around the village of Axel, traditional costumes are still worn: with a lace cap and spiral-shaped golden curls.
