Description

Your route starts at De Veense Bukker. You first drive a bit along the Braassemermeer. This lake was created by peat excavation and is now gratefully used by many water sports enthusiasts. The first mill you encounter is the Dekkermolen in Hoogmade, a cute little sawmill, which was built around 1911 by Adriaan Dekker. Along the southern shore of the Braassemermeer lies the Zuiderhem nature reserve, which consists of six islands, which were created after a dike breach in 1790. If you want to know more about the agricultural history of this region, then the museum of Hemessen is a nice stopover. The Vrouwgeestmolen was built in 1797. You will also see the Hondsdijkse molen, a ground sailer, the Vlietmolen and the Hoogmadesche molen, both hollow post mills and De Jonge Willem, which unfortunately no longer has sails.
