Description

Your route starts at De Veense Bukker. You first drive a bit along the Braassemermeer. This lake was created by peat extraction and is now gratefully used by many water sports enthusiasts. The first mill you encounter is the Dekkermolen in Hoogmade, a cute sawmill that was built around 1911 by Adriaan Dekker. The Zuiderhem nature reserve is located along the south bank of the Braassemermeer, which consists of six islands, which were created after a dike breach in 1790. If you want to know more about the agricultural history of this region, the Hemessen Museum is a nice stop. The Vrouwgeest mill was built in 1797. You will also see the Hondsdijkse mill, a ground sailor, the Vlietmolen and the Hoogmadesche mill, both seesaw mills, and De Jonge Willem, which unfortunately no longer has sails.
