Description

Your route starts at De Veense Bukker. You first drive a bit along the Braassemermeer. This lake was created by peat excavation and is now gratefully used by many water sports enthusiasts. The first mill you will encounter is the Dekker mill in Hoogmade, a cute sawmill built around 1911 by Adriaan Dekker. Along the south bank of the Braassemermeer lies the Zuiderhem nature reserve, which consists of six islands that were created after a dike breached in 1790. If you want to know more about the agricultural history of this region, the Hemessen museum is a nice stopover. The Vrouwgeestmolen was built in 1797. You can also see the Hondsdijkse mill, a ground sailer, the Vlietmolen and the Hoogmadesche mill, both seesaw mills and De Jonge Willem, which unfortunately no longer has any blades.
