Cycling route: 237106
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The Dutch Fens are part of the Groene Hart National Landscape. In this water-rich lowland you drive past the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, among other things. They form one of the last extensive low peat areas that the Netherlands once had. You will find swamps, but also hay fields, flowery meadows and reed fields. On the outskirts of Uithoorn you will also drive past one of the fortifications from the Defense Line of Amsterdam: Fort aan de Drecht. For the rest of the route you can enjoy the sweeping views and the typical Dutch high skies and windmills. In Aarlanderveen you pass De Morgenster, a former flour mill from 1870. In this region you can enjoy the Dutch polder at its best!
