Provided by: Amstel Radler Tour de Hollande
The Giro 2016 starts in Gelderland. There will therefore be two stages between Nijmegen and Arnhem. We also know parts of today's ride from the semi-classic Arnhem-Veenendaal Classic. We cross the Waal and follow the river for about ten kilometers before turning off towards Zetten and Andelst. We cross the Nederrijn with the ferry to Wageningen. Via the beautiful surroundings of Rhenen and Amerongen we arrive at the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. We continue our way through the cycling city of Veenendaal. After this we cross the Ginkelseheide. In Arnhem we cross the Sonsbeek park. This stage experiences its double climax on successively the Emma Pyramid and the Posbank. We pass Rheden, the birthplace of Erik Breukink, the last yellow jersey wearer until this Tour and third in the 1990 Tour. In Arnhem we make a small loop towards the John Frost bridge, as a tribute to our freedom. We end up in the center of Arnhem.
