Description
A unique cycle route that goes from the Colonies of Benevolence, via the Weerribben to Blokzijl. You cycle, as it were, the path that the paupers took more than 200 years ago. From the west, across the Zuiderzee they arrived in Blokzijl to then continue with the barge to Steenwijk.
They then travelled on foot and on carts to Willemsoord, Wilhelminaoord and Frederiksoord. Most of them with nothing in their pockets. Nowadays you can rest at various rest points along the way, experience the unique story and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. This is where culture and nature come together. Welcome then, welcome now!
Tip! Bring some change for the journey. For a small fee, the Jonen ferry will connect your bike ride from Giethoorn to Blokzijl and vice versa. A wonderful experience.
