Castle Forests walk

Put on your walking shoes for a walk through the Kasteelse Bossen, a special nature reserve that lies against the village of Horst. You will soon pass the ruins of Ter Horst Castle. This fortress was built in the early fourteenth century. During the Eighty Years' War, the castle was partially destroyed by marauding soldiers. In 1798 the French put an end to the manor rights of the last resident, Frans Clemens von Fürstenberg. After this, the castle fell into disrepair. Yet the ruin offers you a nice glimpse into the past. In the forest it is wonderfully quiet walking along oaks, beech trees and Scots pines. You will also pass a pond. The route ends at Graaf Ter Horst. Time for a snack and drink!
