Tour of Deurnsche Peel and Mariapeel

Via Horst you cycle to the Heesbeemden, a nature reserve consisting of swamp forests where alders and willows grow in abundance. A little later you cycle through the fragrant coniferous forest of the Steegberg, this area was only developed after the Second World War. Further on you come through Helenaveen and, a little later, through Griendtsveen: the only two former peat colonies in the southern Netherlands. Between these villages you cycle exactly on the border of Brabant and Limburg. On the left you see the Deurnsche Peel, on the right the Mariapeel. Both are a unique remnant of an old extensive raised bog area. The Schadijkse Bossen are the last nature reserve on your route.
