Wind along the Maas and its lakes, to beautiful old towns and special discoveries. With many terraces along the route!
Your route starts with a cup of coffee on the terrace of the Hompesche Mill Visitor Center. Take a look nearby at the Tree Monument: fossil oaks were buried under the silt and gravel of the Meuse 1,500 to 2,000 years ago.
Enjoy a terrace on the beautiful old Market of Maaseik, in Belgium, and get off a little further at Wurfeld Castle. On the Belgian-Dutch border you will discover the Doodendraad, a reconstructed part of the electric wire barrier that was located here during the First World War.
Nearby you will pass the medieval Uffelse Watermill. Via the beautiful old Neeritter you arrive in Wessem, where you can enjoy a terrace on the Maas. Also take a look at the St. Medardus Church, which dates from 946.

Be sure to get off in Thorn, the famous white village. There was once a principality here, governed by an abbess (female abbot): it was the capital of the smallest state in the entire Roman Empire. You can rent a silent sloop for a trip at the Maasplassen. Then you drive back to the'Island in the Maas\\\', where you will discover Stevensweert. It was converted into a fortified town by the Spanish in 1633.
