Description
This route takes you through the Frisian polders below Franeker. Here you can once again enjoy the peace and quiet and the expansive landscape at your leisure. You'll pass through several hamlets, such as Westerend and Tallum. From junction 86, you'll ride along the Bolswardertrekvaart canal. This canal was built in 1638 at the expense of the city of Bolsward to connect several existing waterways. From the path, you'll see reed beds and beautiful old buildings. Just past junction 71, on the other side of the water, you'll see It Tsiispakhus. This regional museum is housed in a monumental cheese warehouse from 1905. Tzum is the next village of significance. At the end of the beautiful Voorstraat, you'll see the 12th-century Johanneskerk (St. John's Church).
