Description
This route takes you through the Frisian polders below Franeker. Here you can once again enjoy the peace and quiet and the vast landscape at your leisure. You pass through several hamlets, such as Westerend and Tallum. From junction 86 you drive along the Bolswardertrekvaart. This canal was built in 1638 at the expense of the city of Bolsward to connect a number of existing waters. From the path you look out over reed collars and beautiful old buildings. Just past junction 71 you will see It Tsiispakhus on the other side of the water. This regional museum is located in a monumental cheese warehouse from 1905. Tzum is the next town of significance. At the end of the beautiful Voorstraat you will see the twelfth-century Johanneskerk.
