Tour of Burgwerd, Bolsward and Witmarsum

Between Franeker and Bolsward it is lovely to drive on quiet roads. Here you can enjoy the wide views over vast grasslands at your leisure. An ideal region to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind you and to slow down. Along the way you will pass through some beautiful old towns, such as the terp village of Kubaard. The beautiful village church originally dates from the late Middle Ages. Burgwerd is also a terp village. From here you pick up the path along the Bolswardertrekvaart, a canal that was constructed in 1638. Along the water you enter Bolsward, one of the Frisian Eleven Cities. The route starts and ends at Hotel-Restaurant Poort van Franeker, enjoy a well-deserved snack and drink here or book an overnight stay to go on the road the next day.
