During the first kilometers you can get a breath of fresh air while you drive through the vast polders. You pass through a number of villages, such as the atmospheric Dronrijp. Further on you can take a look at De Poelen, a polder mill from 1850. Then you drive along the Van Harinxma Canal, which opened in 1951. In Marssum you drive past the Poptalot, a sixteenth-century Stins. You will also see the medieval St. Pontian's Church. A little later you cycle into Leeuwarden, the largest of the Frisian eleven cities. In the center you will see plenty of old buildings. In Beers the thirteenth-century Mariakerk is located on the mound. Nearby you can see a steel reconstruction of the Uniastate, demolished in 1756, of which only the gatehouse remains.
