Description

Put on your waterproof walking shoes for a walk through the Nieuwe Dordtse Biesbosch. This former agricultural area has a rich history. It was caused by a flood disaster in 1421, the so-called St. Elisabeth Flood. Along the path you will see some former bunkers from the Dutch Line. From the Van Elzelingenweg you will see two old chains on a tidal hill on the left. Reed cutters and osier workers used to stay here from Monday to Saturday. The characteristic trees served as a beacon to help you find your way back to the shack, even during high water and bad weather. From the Zuidhaven you walk to the Oosthaven. The land ship is a mix of reeds, osier, forest and river edges. You can spot many birds here, including the osprey! The route ends at De Watertoren Hotel & Restaurant.
