Walking through the valley of a peat canal

This short route takes you through the valley of a peat canal. But first you walk across the Wallsteijn Estate, which was built in the early 1800s. Here you experience the atmosphere of times gone by, partly because you pass an old hunting dome. Further on you will see a seventeenth-century peat canal that was previously used to transport peat from the Oude Buisse Heide to the ports of Antwerp and Breda. You walk through a varied forest, after which you can admire the open cultural landscape of De Reten. In this nature reserve you will see agricultural land, herb-rich grasslands and hedgerows. On the way back you walk through a stately avenue with beeches, oaks and robinias. Back at't Pannehûske you can enjoy something tasty, the conviviality and the atmosphere of times gone by.
