Walking through the outskirts of Dongen

This walk takes you through the Duiventoren first. Coniferous trees, American oaks and beeches grow in this nature reserve. You walk north on wide avenues. At the Wilhelmina Canal you turn right. Via a winding path you arrive at the Woeste Zee. This is a remnant of what was once a much larger shifting sand area. In the forest are the remains of a canal system. According to legend, a robber baron lived here. The route leads you further through Laareind and Steenhoven, two hamlets consisting of a few farms. You walk back into the forest along the meadows and fields.
