Walking through the rural area of Dongen

This walk first takes you through the Pigeon Tower. Conifers, American oaks and beech trees grow in this nature reserve. You walk north along wide avenues. At the Wilhelminakanaal you turn to the right. Via a winding path you reach the Wild Sea. This is a remnant of what was once a much larger drifting sand area. The remains of a canal system still lie in the forest. According to legend, a robber baron lived here. The route takes you further through Laareind and Steenhoven, two hamlets that consist of a few farms. You walk back into the forest past the meadows and fields.
