Walk outside the Haaksbergen area

Just above Haaksergen you can take a beautiful varied walk. First you walk through the characteristic Twente cultural landscape. Meadows, fields, streams and forest: it all criss-crosses here. After a while you walk across the Stapelerveld. There used to be a vast heathland area with sand drifts here. Around 1900, the land was purchased by a textile manufacturer and developed into forest and agricultural land. You then walk through the Altena forest. This nature reserve takes its name from the former Altena castle, which was located near the Hagmolenbeek. The castle was destroyed in the fifteenth century. Just like the Stepelerveld, the Altena forest now belongs to the Twickel estate. Towards the end of your route you walk through the Boddenbroek, a small-scale nature reserve. The route ends at Koffie en Theeschenkerij Hof't Sprakel.
