This route takes you through two provinces... Gelderland and Overijssel. Enjoy rolling fields, stretches of forest and wide views over open fields. You cycle through Markelo , one of the oldest villages in Twente. The landscape around Markelo is slightly hilly and is characterized by rolling ash trees and five hills. The place has dozens of national monuments, including farms, outbuildings, estates and burial grounds. Stellingmolen De Hoop is a flour mill from 1839. The mill ground grain using wind power until 1924, after which it continued to grind with an electric motor. In 1991, only the hull of the dilapidated mill remained. It was then thoroughly restored and is now regularly put into operation by a volunteer miller.
At Fuchsiaboerderij Erve Knopert you can marvel at the floral splendor of a fuchsia garden. With hundreds of varieties of fuchsias and container plants, this garden is a true feast for the eyes. Dahlia lovers will also get their money's worth here.
Gelselaar is a charming town that enjoys a protected village view. Just outside the village you pass Erve Brooks museum farm , a national monument. The farm dates from 1538 and is open for viewing every day. The small-scale collection consists of old radios and televisions, old-fashioned costumes and objects that tell a story about whaling in the East Netherlands, the Borculo estate and textile history. Lochem has a lot of nature and is rich in history. Lochem is a pleasant town with a rich history. The oldest building is the Sint Gudulakerk , an originally wooden church from 950. The last major renovation took place in 1550. Just outside Lochem is the Ampsense Veld , like a green heart in an open agricultural environment. The landscape is very varied with coniferous and deciduous forests, moist heaths and organic agricultural lands. Some areas are designated as rest areas. Deer, mouflons and wild sheep with curved horns live here. The history of Huis Ampsen goes back to 1105. Five hundred years later the house was destroyed by the Spaniards, but quickly rebuilt. In Laren you can admire the village church, a neoclassical water control church from 1835. Partly hidden in the greenery are a number of beautiful country houses and castles. Just outside Laren (Deventerweg 88) is the De Broake vineyard . Definitely recommended to visit here and taste the delicious wines.
