Tour of Deurnsche Peel and Stippelberg

Your route first takes you through the Deurnsche Peel raised bog area. This route takes you through the De Bult sub-area, followed a little later by the Leegveld. The Deurnsche Peel and the adjacent Mariapeel around the peat colonies of Griendtsveen and Helenaveen are also remnants of this once extensive raised bog area. The area had dried out considerably due to the peat excavations, but attempts are now being made to preserve the raised bog by making nature wetter again. On the way back you cycle through the beautiful Stippelberg forest area, named after the many sand hills that dot the landscape here. You will also discover the eastern part: a real estate, complete with a country house and stately avenues. You might spot a woodpecker or deer!
