Tour of Oud-Beijerland, Poortugaal and Rhoon

This route takes you through several nature reserves and villages on both sides of the Oude Maas river. You'll drive through the polder to Oud-Beijerland, where you'll see some beautiful historic buildings at the Oude Haven (Old Harbour). You'll cross the river by ferry, and on the other side, you'll drive to Poortugaal. Here you'll pass, among other things, the late-Gothic village church dating from 1500. A little later, you'll drive through the Valckestein Forest, whose many poplars make this nature reserve seem older than it actually is. In Rhoon, you'll enjoy the historic atmosphere, thanks in part to the 15th-century Rhoon Castle. Then you'll drive through the De Rhoonse Grienden nature reserve. In the Jan Gerritsepolder, you'll pass the Gaatkensbult, a lookout hill with a beautiful panorama. At Eeterij-Tapperij De Platte Reedijk, it's time for a delicious meal.
