Description
Vijlen, that is Bicycle & Walking Café A Gen Kirk. An authentic inn, decorated as a museum with Sacred Heart statues, in the oldest café in the village. With its own walks, its own beer and its own dishes. One of the addresses on the Vijlenerberg Kroegjesroute, a selection of cafes where you can always get a walking route to discover the next special address.
Such as Boscafé't Hijgend Hert, the only mountain hut in the Netherlands. On a dirt road at an altitude of 260 meters. Be sure to taste the Hert beers here, brewed by a small brewery just across the border in Belgium. But they have many more specialty beers here. The drink menu contains a complete tree diagram to help you find the perfect beer.
This route starts at Farm Camping Schrouff Vijlen. In the hamlet of Harles, near Vijlen, you will find this campsite behind a typical South Limburg square farm. Every camping spot overlooks the rolling hills of Limburg
country.
You can walk straight into the Vijlenerbos, to Boscafé Het Hijgend Hert and Lodge 7. Even closer, in the valley, is Herberg Oud Holset - a half-timbered farm in the hamlet of Holset. The menu features genuine regional dishes such as stinky cheese and black pudding.
Our own (spicy!) walking route leads you from the campsite past all three addresses. Also fun with the mountain bike!
