Description

This rural route goes through a wonderful agricultural part of Brabant where there was a lot of activity in the past. This is reflected in the large number of windmills that you encounter along the way. How farmers lived and worked at the beginning of this century can be seen in and around the Meierijsche Museum Farm halfway along the route. North of Bedaf you pass the Bedafse Bergen (also spelled: Bedafsche Bergen). Since the Middle Ages, a drifting sand ridge has developed here, which was planted with coniferous forest at the beginning of the 20th century. The sand ridges with heights of up to 25 meters are carefully maintained. A few kilometers further you cycle through the small Vorstenbosch. Here is the round stone mountain flour mill Windlust, which you can visit by appointment.

The beautiful art deco church of St. Lambertus is also worth a mention, especially because of what hangs inside the church: the impressive triptych'St. Antonius Abt and his temptations\\\' from 1989, painted by the Den Bosch artist Hendrik de Laat. This can also be viewed by appointment. On the way to Heeswijk Dinther you pass the Kilsdonkse Mill. A so-called'water escape mill\\\', with a double effect; an oil mill that worked on water power and a flour mill that could be powered by both wind and water. This tool had a particularly large production capacity. This combination makes the Kilsdonkse Mill particularly unique, both nationally and internationally!

Heeswijk is known for the Berne Abbey. The abbey is inhabited by the oldest monastic community in the Netherlands, the Premonstratensians, but is not accessible to the public, except on open days. The oldest part, the Slotje, dates from 1546. Wonderful to walk around in this quiet area. The organ concerts in Berne Abbey on the first Sunday of the month from May to November are famous.

Halley Observatory is open every first Friday and first Sunday of the month to anyone interested in astronomy. The beautiful building that you encounter when you cycle through Vinkel has several telescopes in the domes and a digital planetarium. The cozy and typical Brabant Nistelrode with the cozy village square in the shape of the ancient village green is your final destination. Nice to 'hang around' for a while.
