The route starts from TOP Schiedam and takes you along the Maasboulevard where you can experience the vastness of the river and the port area. The port area is part of Wereldhaven Rotterdam and offers space to innovative maritime companies that carry out assignments worldwide. After the Maasboulevard you will pass through the historic city center of Schiedam. In the city center of Schiedam, the signs from the heyday (18th century) of the jenever industry can still be clearly seen: mills, distilleries and warehouses along the Lange Haven. The mills ground malted grain for the burners, which distilled malt wine for the jenever industry. The waste product (slop) of the jenever distillate has been transported for centuries to the farms in the polders around the city to be used as animal feed.
Schiedam is also closely connected to the peat meadow area of Midden-Delfland. Nearby is De Poldervaart, which was already dug around 1280 and ensured the drainage of the surrounding land
