Tour of nature near Baarle and Weelde

After a cup of coffee at Brasserie De Kievit, put on your walking shoes. Nearby you will come across the Bels line, this former railway leads all the way from Turnhout to Tilburg. It is now a nice bike path. In 1898 the Dutch part became the property of the State Railways. Because the Paris-Amsterdam connection via Turnhout and Tilburg was the shortest, they wanted to expand the line. In 1906, the railway yard Weelde-Statie / Baarle-Nassau-border was taken into use. This yard included a station building and a marshalling yard with 24 tracks next to each other. Housing was built there for train and customs personnel: the beginning of this residential community on the border. You walk back at your leisure via Landgoed Schaluinen. This hospitable estate is hidden between the woods and is spacious.
