Tour of Heuvelland from Maastricht

Your route starts at Camperplaats Maastricht. Nearby you will discover the wharf cellars of't Bassin with their restaurants, grand cafés, shops and galleries. In summer it has a very Mediterranean feel with the terraces on the water. Further on you pass the Sint Gerlach castle, which was built as a monastery in the twelfth century. It was not until the nineteenth century that the monastery was converted into a castle. Then you cycle through Ingendael: a wonderfully quiet nature reserve with flowery grasslands through which the Geul meanders. Get off in Valkenburg to experience the atmosphere of the town, which feels like you are somewhere in Germany. History has left its mark here, so you can see the ruins of Valkenburg Castle. You cycle back via the Bemelerberg and Sint Geertruid.
