Kinderdijk walking route

This walk leads you from the edge of Alblasserdam to the world famous Kinderdijk. Above Alblasserdam you immediately enjoy the views over the typical Dutch landscape of windmills and waterways. The beautiful windmills are getting closer and closer! In Kinderdijk, where the Noord and Lek rivers meet, sixteen polder windmills were built in 1738 to protect the village against the water. The second mill on the west side of the Middelkade can be visited. The beautiful eighteenth-century windmills, such as the Hoge Molen and Kleine Molen, are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Not only because of the history of the mills themselves, but also because all the technology that has been used for water management since the Middle Ages can be seen here.
