Tour of Varsseveld and Heelweg-Oost

Your walk starts at Wijngaard and Uutbloas stop Hofstee De Vennebulten. It is named after the nature reserve of the same name east of Varsseveld: a forest on an old sand ridge in a moist heathland area. The Vennebulten consists mainly of coniferous forests and is intersected by a Hessen road, which dates from Roman times. Very special to walk along this road once you know it! The route takes you further through the bocage landscape to Varsseveld. The landscape around this village is characterized by small-scale relief differences: the Varsseveldse kopps. These small cover sand hills, varying from one to five meters in height, were created during the last ice age. The Varsseveldse kopps are a beautiful remnant of the historic eastern Dutch camp landscape. You walk back to your starting point via Heelweg-Oost.
