The castle garden at the Rijsterbos is full of brightly colored flowers all spring long. From crocus to wild tulip and from lungwort to hollow root. They are stinsen plants, elegant bulbous and tuber plants that used to be planted near country houses, parsonages and farms; the Frisian word'stins\\\' means'stone house\\\'. Huize Rijs and the castle garden were sold and demolished in 1937, but the garden has since been restored to all its glory. The stinsen flowers provide a colorful ending to this walk. You will also walk through the Rijsterbos, an estate forest that has been created on the slopes of the Frisian Gaasterland.
