Description

Your route starts at Camperplaats Op Streek. Further on you pass through Oude Pekela, named after the river Pekel A, which takes its name from the salinized water. The water stream flowed into the sea, but seawater also flowed into the river. It used to be one elongated village along the water - the peat was mainly transported by water. Then you drive along the water of the Oldambtmeer, which was created on former agricultural land. Boschplaatse in Blijham was built as a farm around 1580. In 1966 it lost its function as a farm as a result of the first land consolidation in the Netherlands. You drive back along the Westerwoldse or Ruiten Aa, one of the most beautiful stream valleys in the Netherlands with a variety of round fields, hay fields, bushes and hedgerows.
