In this age-old low polder landscape, many pieces of land have been reclaimed from the water through drainage and reclamation. The view of the parceled fields on this route is wonderfully relaxing.
Countless polder mills
On this bike tour you will pass numerous polder windmills. Just past Spanbroek you will find windmill De Westerveer, for example. This mill drained the polder of the same name for a long time. It was even the last polder in North Holland that was still drained by wind power. On the rest of the route you will also pass De Kaagmolen, mill de Berkmeer and mill de Vier Winden. All these windmills used to drain polders in this area.
