Tour of Onstwedde and Vlagtwedde

This route starts in Vlagtwedde. Vlagtwedde used to be the main town of the municipality of the same name, which also includes Ter Apel and Bourtange, but now it is Sellingen. Judgments were held in the town before 1200. You will find a beautiful old church there (just turn into Kerkstraat). Then you cycle into the Ruiten Aa valley: a variety of round fields, meadows, groves and hedgerows. The characteristic Groningen farms are also present, you can see them in picturesque Smeerling, among others. On the edge of Onstwedde you will pass one of the two existing Groningen Juffertorens. This over 41 meter high Juffertoren dates from the thirteenth century. It appears to be crooked, but that is an illusion!
