Tour of Bourtange and Ruiten Aa

There is plenty to discover in Westerwolde. Or to experience it again, because lovers of nature, history and beautiful bike rides like to come back! Further on is the beautiful fortified village of Bourtange, where you will experience a unique cultural history. This fortified village looks much the same as it did in 1742. William of Orange had the fortress built in the sixteenth century to liberate Groningen from Spanish hands. From Jipsinghuizen you will discover the Ruiten Aa, a stream that is also called the backbone of Westerwolde. You cycle a long way through this lovely stream valley, it is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands! The beautifully meandering water leads you all the way back to your starting point, through a variety of convex fields, hay meadows, bushes and hedgerows.
