Description
Today you will discover Het Rutbeek, an area of 120 ha with forests, water features, meadows and recreational facilities. The area was created around a sand quarry. As early as the 1960s there were plans for the construction of a recreational area, in 1982 it opened. On the way back you will walk over Landgoed Zonnebeek, around Huis Zonnebeek that was built in 1906. This was once the home of a textile manufacturer: Jan Bernard van Heek (1863-1923) lived here with his American wife Edwina Burr Ewing (1872-1945). It is a beautiful estate with the associated coach house and other buildings, the surrounding park and the adjacent nature reserve.
