Route Norg-Zeijen-Roden

This route passes no fewer than 5 green villages: Roden, Norg, Zeijen, Tynaarlo and Vries. Green villages were built in the Middle Ages. They were often built on a high sand ridge. Each village had one or more open spaces called village greens. This was the central location of the village and houses and farms were built around it. In the green villages you can often still find remnants of the past: old farms, sandy paths, village greens, essen (fields) and sometimes dobbe (water hole).
