Industrial Heritage

The route runs along the water of the Zaan as much as possible. Where factories once stood, residential complexes have now arisen that resemble their predecessors in shape and volume. On the old river dikes East and West side you can still see the capital villas of the manufacturers, while many workers' houses have been built in the side streets. All these side paths had ditches that are almost all filled in. 

On the east side are neighborhoods with social housing, west of the Zaan is more privately owned. Along the way there are several vistas with beautiful views over the water. Some of the factories have been given a new use, such as the former biscuit factory in Verkade and the old pearl mill in Zwaardemaker.

Tip: there are beautiful houses and even a farm on the dead end Stuurmanspad. The ditch is also still present.
