Description

Starting point: parking Zaanse Schans (paid parking)

The Zaanse Schans was officially opened in 1972 as a wood construction reserve and has since grown into a top tourist attraction.
You walk from the bustle to the rest: first past the many wooden houses and windmills along the Zaan and Kalverringdijk, then over the Engewormer dike (note busy road, many cars, not directly suitable with children) and along the water of the Ringvaart.
The many houseboats in the Braaksloot and certainly the neighborhood of Haaldersbroek exude the atmosphere of the past. There is no mass tourism here yet. This neighborhood may have been inhabited since the 13th century. The oldest surviving house, number 11, dates from 1661.
NB:. The Haaldersbroekerdwarsstraat is perhaps even nicer, although it will be a back and forth. The road ditch, which every Zaan path originally had, has not yet been filled in here.

Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
