Description

Krommenie and Assendelft were, how could it be otherwise in the Zaan region, originally separated by water. Today Provincialeweg and railway line mark the border. While many cattle farmers could be found in Assendelft, Krommenie was best known for the tarpaulin that stood at the cradle of the now world leader in floor covering: Forbo flooring.

The tarpaulin traders were called roller ship owners at the time and many of their homes are now national monuments. The wooden facades have stood the test of time and you will be amazed by the ingenuity of the woodcarvers.

The Agathe Park is worth a trip. Chickens scurry around, there is an aviary and there is play equipment for children. Light industry is located along the Nauernasche Vaart. The former tin factory from 1897 is one of the oldest buildings.

tip: visit the Forbo Expo on Saturday (11.00-16.00) for a look at a marmoleum model home.

Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
