The old city center of Alkmaar is easy to discover by bike. From the city you can also cycle into the vast polder to the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer.
In the polder you cycle through a characteristic Dutch landscape of grasslands, ditches and high skies. In this surprisingly quiet area you can take a good look around you. You pass the Noordermolen from 1589 and, a little further on, the Oude Knegt corn mill. Along the banks of the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer you can take a break and look out over the rippling water. An ideal way to clear your head.
