Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 213294
Provided by: Groots Genieten
De Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park is ideal for a wonderful walk. Here you walk through an extensive forest area in which deciduous and coniferous trees alternate. Native species such as birch, oak and beech are given more and more space, so that the forest feels even more natural.
Because dead trees are allowed to remain, many insects and birds live there. There is a good chance that you will hear a woodpecker drumming while walking, and in some places perhaps even a raven. As you walk along one of the clearings in the forest, you have a chance to see one of the many hawks or buzzards passing by.
The route starts and ends at Restaurant Klein Switzerland, a household name in the Driebergen area. This attractive and child-friendly location is a great base to enjoy a coffee, lunch, pancake, meal salad or meat or fish dish after a nice walk! You can also reserve a high tea or stone grill here.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
