Mill route along Slochteren and Noordbroek

This route passes six beautiful windmills in Central Groningen. Just outside Slochteren, three windmills are close together on the Groenedijk. The Fraeylemamolen was built in 1786 for the drainage of the Groote Oosterpolder. The Molen van de Groote polder , a little further on, is the oldest polder mill in Groningen. Mill De Ruiten has already endured a lot: it burned down twice, was damaged by a storm and the auger ran dry due to land consolidation. But after a major restoration in 2010, the mill was able to do its job again.
Just outside Noordbroek is De Noordstar , an octagonal peeling and corn mill. While cycling towards the Noordermolen you will see the Westerse Molen . This is currently being restored. Both are polder mills. The Noordermolen runs every weekend.
