Description

The Noordsche Veld is an archaeologically interesting area. There is a large complex of honeycomb fields (prehistoric fields, also called Celtic fields) and a large number of burial mounds. These are called the Nine Mountains, although there are more to be counted.
Before the Second World War, there were even more burial mounds to see. However, the German occupier built a mock airfield on the Noordsche Veld and much was destroyed. The"airport\\\", complete with wooden airplanes, was intended as a distraction, especially when viewed from the air. It was hoped that this would be bombed and not the nearby military airfield. The latter was located (it has completely disappeared) south of Norg, a few kilometers to the west of the Noordsche Veld, between Zuidvelde and Peest. Only the grove with the (nick) name of the Petrol Forest - the former location of the fuel storage - still reminds us of the airport.

Along the way you can also drink a delicious cup of coffee at the nature place Noordsche Veld.
